The feeling of summer coming to a close is a very unique experience shared by educators. This may be a time of excitement, stress, or anticipation for teachers. It’s probably some combination of all three! When I was in the classroom, I was excited to try new things I’d learned about with my students, nervous to meet the new scholars that would be with me for the year, and all the things. I always jumped right in and got started, but I never took the time to really reflect on what I wanted from the year. As you prepare for the upcoming year, here are five prompts to reflect on. Take some time to quietly jot down your thoughts to each. When you feel weary during the year, return to this reflection as a reminder of why you’re teaching in the first place.
1. I became an educator because…
2. This year, I want to be mindful of…
3. This year, success might look like…
4. Something new I might try is…
5. If I could record my teaching throughout this year, when I replay it I would like to see and hear…
